At 6:20, Yancheng Huijin Water Co., Ltd. (formerly City Water Supply Corporation) received feedback from users that there was pesticide smell in the water. The water company immediately notified the three water plants in Chengdong, Chengxi and Yuehe to inspect the water samples, and immediately found that the tap water from the Chengxi Waterworks and the Yuehe Waterworks had strong pesticide flavor.

 

The person in charge of Yancheng Huijin Water Co., Ltd. said that at 7 o'clock, he led the relevant personnel to the water intake inspection of the water plant at Xinyang Port in the lower reaches of the Weisong River. It was found that the surface of the water was foggy and the air was floating with obvious pesticide smell. The taste in other rivers is much heavier. The Water Company immediately reported to the Yancheng Municipal Government, as well as the water conservancy and environmental protection departments, and adopted emergency water stop measures to fully discharge the pipe network water already produced by the Chengxi Water Plant and the water just stored in the reservoir. After receiving the report, the Yancheng Municipal Government organized the relevant departments of environmental protection, sanitation, maritime affairs, etc. to take emergency measures to activate the water source of the Tongyu River, increase the production capacity of the Chengdong Water Plant, and restrict some industrial water use. It is reported that phenols are protoplasmic poisons, which are highly toxic substances, and acute poisoning symptoms may occur when a certain amount of human body is ingested. It is understood that there has been no public discomfort such as poisoning.

After the water pollution incident, Yancheng City conducted a full investigation. The current reason has been initially identified. It is caused by the sewage from a chemical plant located in Longgang Town, Yandu District, Yancheng City.

 

After preliminary investigation, the company named “Yancheng Biaoxin Chemical Co., Ltd.” is located about 11 kilometers upstream of the water intake, producing chemical products such as fine chemicals, daily chemicals, printing and dyeing auxiliaries, and was also rated as “ The top ten model companies in Yancheng."

 

According to the relocation plan, the company will be relocated from the upstream at the end of 2009. On February 17, the company will be shut down for maintenance.

 

According to reports, Biaoxin Chemical Company usually discharges the sewage generated by the factory in a small ditch. This small ditch has a small dam. On the day of production stoppage, the plant opened the dam, which coincided with heavy rain before Yancheng, and the sewage flowed.
